Norman Reedus and me.
Let me start this story by telling you that Norman is, without a doubt, the nicest celebrity I’ve ever met.  And I’m not talking “Hi, how are you, thanks for coming, watch the show, blah blah blah” nice.  I mean he’s really, really genuine.
My mom and I got weekend passes to Texas Frightmare Weekend, but it was the first convention we’ve ever been to and we literally had no idea what to expect.  So, being the people we are, we got to the venue about 40 minutes early to scope things out.  And we certainly didn’t expect to find ourselves near the very front of the line to meet Norman.  When we realized how close we were, my mom and I both started tearing up soooo now I know where I get it from :P
Then there was a bit of craziness because they let people in, but Norman’s table was right by the door and they had to snake the line out of it without blocking the doorway for the other patrons.  Then, after my mom and I backed up to where we were supposed to wait by the doorway, some chick tried to get us to move back more so she could stand in line.  And when my mom didn’t move, she was like “This is the for people waiting for autographs.”  My mother, who is always so very chill until the moment she’s not, just goes, “Yeah, that’s me.”
I guess that somehow this girl thought that because they moved the line, we all got to shuffle and the people in the back got to be first.  I have no idea.  But she said, “Well I was waiting over there,” and my mom snapped, “Yeah, we were waiting ahead of you.  The back of the line is that way.”  It was quite entertaining.
ANYWAY, Norman was one of the last people to actually get to his table.  And when he finally did, that’s when I realized that I had no idea what to say to him.  At all.  The people behind us brought him a frickin cake, how was I supposed to compete with that?  So they finally called us up to wait by the table and I was really freaking out and I actually started to cry at that point…luckily, I got it under control before I got to him :|
Like I said before, my mom and I are new to this; we had cash, but we didn’t realize how much it would cost to get a picture with Norman. My mom ended up deciding not to take a picture with him, even after I offered to share mine with her and have the staff gal take it.  She just wanted me to get a picture with him.
Lucky for my lame self, Norman Reedus is extremely easy to talk to.  I walked up to him and he held out his hand and said, “Hi there, sweetheart.  I’m Norman.” as if I had never heard of him before.  My mom was wearing a t-shirt that I made hher (it had a picture of Daryl’s crossbow and said “DARYL DIXON CROSS MY HEART”) and he was like, “I love the shirt!” So I turned around and said, “Yeah, and I’ve got my angel wings,” (I was wearing a black tank with angel wings on the back) and he goes, “That’s great!  Wait, you stay there and you turn around and look over your shoulder” AND HE TOOK A PICTURE OF OUR SHIRTS.  And then he goes, “Awesome, I’m gonna twitpic that!”
So I said, “Great, I’ll retweet it!”  And my mom, in very motherly fashion, said, “I really love that you’re on twitter all the time.  It means a lot to the fans to see that you care so much about the things they make for you.”  And he said, “Yeah, definitely.  I mean you guys are keeping me alive on the show, so of course!” and I said, “Yeah, I think it’s funny that everyone thinks Daryl is gonna die.  I was like ‘you guys, they can’t kill Daryl.  If they do, there’ll be anarchy.’”  And he said, “I hope not!  You have to call AMC every day!  And send them threatening letters!” and my mom laughed and I was like, “Um, I already do.  Don’t even worry about it.”
He said, “You guys are so sweet.  I’m going to kiss your hands.”  AND HE FRICKIN DID.  He kissed my hand and I got all giggly and it was just fantastic.  So then we took our picture together and afterwards I asked him if I could have a hug.  He said, “Of course, sweetheart!” and he hugged me, like actually hugged me.  I know it was long because I specifically remember thinking ‘Norman Reedus has been holding me for quite a while’ in the middle of it.  And I thanked him and he thanked me for coming and then my mom and I shuffled off!
It was funny; even my mom said, “That was a long hug…long enough to make me uncomfortable from a mother standpoint.  Like, ‘Hey, that’s my 19 year old daughter, sir.’”  And then I laughed and spontaneously burst into tears and had to sit down.  I was wondering why my mom wouldn’t let go of me until we sat down and then she informed me that I had been shaking like a leaf.  It was weird.  I’m just a really awkward person.  In fact, I’m more of a chihuahua when it comes to exciting things like this…
I have no idea what we would have done if we didn’t get there early.  By the time we walked out to find a place to sit, the line was already wrapped around the corner and down the hallway.  I definitely wasn’t expecting to get a chance to meet him within the first hour of being there.
We also talked to IronE, Madison, and Chandler and they were all super sweet and really personable.  But that’s a story for another day ;]
